Background
I
am a Licensed Psychologist with more than 30 years experience in private
practice. I have a strong commitment to working with people interested
in maximizing their psychological health, and who are seeking more joyful,
passionate, and purposeful lives. I am also trained as an Imago Relationship
Therapist and am a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200) with Yoga Alliance.
I
specialize in counseling adults, individuals, families, and couples,
focusing on personal growth, self-awareness, and self-empowerment.
I see
people individually and in groups.
There is an emphasis
on helping clients identify their innate strengths and positive attributes
so they are
happier and better able to meet
the challenges of daily living with greater ease and self confidence.
I
assist couples to become less reactive and more conscious in their
interactions with one another. I teach them tools and practices for
communicating constructively
and effectively, whether the couple comes for pre-marital counseling,
marriage counseling, or to learn how to co-parent more effectively.
For
those who express a desire and a readiness to do so, I focus on psychological
counseling as a spiritual path, assisting clients
to
enter into a deeply
personal exploration of life’s meaning and purpose. As a
life long student and practitioner of yoga, I integrate the healing
power of yoga
and meditation into my work. Clinical research and experience have
demonstrated that both yoga and meditation have a positive effect
on reducing anxiety,
stabilizing mood, and enhancing performance.
I am a workshop presenter
and lecturer. Some topics include:
• Because You’re
Worth It? • Psychotherapy as a Spiritual Path? • Building Bridges
to Understanding? • Conscious Parenting
I am part of the
Executive Coaching team in the Executive Education Department at the
University of Michigan Ross School
of Business,
Ann Arbor, MI,
where I was an Adjunct Professor from 1994-2004. Business leaders,
executives and managers took my courses on effective managerial
coaching and interpersonal
skills, how to manage diversity within organizations, and leadership
development through personal transformation.
I am well known for
my work as a psychologist feature reporter on local and national newscasts,
and have appeared as a psychologist
expert
on a variety of nationally syndicated radio and television talk
shows,
including
seven appearances on the Oprah Show. I have also hosted my own
radio talk show, Ask the Psychologist, on WXYT radio, Detroit, MI.
I
am married and the mother of one son.
